Well here we are again at the winter solstice and all the celebrations that the season brings. We like to take a moment at this time of year to thank everyone who has contributed to the happy running of the Society over the past year and look forward to the New Year and wonder what new things will pop up to amaze us.
Special thanks to the staff and management of The Angel, where we hold the monthly meetings for all their help. Please support them with your custom as they are kind enough not to charge us for the use of the room.
Just for a change we are trying a full colour cover on the newsletter. We hope it prints up OK.
The 2008 long weekend will be the 2nd attempt to visit the Kilpeck area of Herefordshire. You will remember that we had to cancel last year because of the severe flooding. In fact the camp site we had planned to use was under several feet of water. Too deep for wellies!!!! The dates are June 12 – 15. If you are thinking of joining us for the whole period or just some of it let have a chat with Shaun. The sooner we have some idea of the numbers the better.
You will see from the gig list at the back of the newsletter that Shaun has been busy and we now have a nearly full program of speakers booked. He has also arranged some of the field trips, and the others, along with fuller details, will follow shortly. February and March trips have been planned but we are awaiting landowner’s permission before printing details. There will be no field trip in August because we are usually busy with several road show events. We don’t have dates for these yet but will let you know when we do. Remember the field trips are subject to change.

So how do you feel about your house? Do you look forward to coming home and sinking into its embrace or do you find yourself avoiding being there? Does your home help you feel safe and nourished or have you been unhappy and unwell ever since you moved in? Looking back, has your life taken on a particular theme, for better or worse, since arriving there? If you take a moment to ponder these questions you might be surprised at what insights pop out like “Yes, my career has really taken off since being here” or “I just can’t seem to find a long-term relationship since coming to this house” or “I just seem to have bad luck all the time now I’m here”.
As a House Therapist (somebody who works with the personality of a house as well as its physical appearance) I have been amazed at how much our homes influence our lives and I think we now need to be a lot more discerning about where we choose to live. We are living in a time of major transition – human beings are evolving spiritually at an incredible rate, especially as we gallop towards 2012, and we are becoming ever more permeable to our environment. As we awaken we become more sensitive and receptive and we need to be more conscious about the choices we are making, like what food we eat, what work we do, what people we have in our life and, I believe, what house we live in. We can no longer be in places that are not compatible with who we are.
Over the past 10 years I have discovered that houses (and offices come to that) have definite patterns of occupancy which I call ‘House Scripts’ that the people who live there will act out. When you move in to a property it’s as though you and your family have been handed an invisible script at the door and each person takes a role. Previous occupants will have also have performed the script – same play, different actors.
There are many different types of house script. For example, there are houses where couples repeatedly divorce after arriving there. There are house which only support men or only support women. There are properties that are family houses, single-person houses, poverty houses, jinxed houses, creative houses, spiritual houses, warrior houses, scholarly houses and even fertility houses where lots of babies are born. These properties will keep attracting the same kinds of people to them and anyone that arrives there that isn’t resonant with the script will tend to leave fairly quickly. I saw an interesting example of this in a house I lived in for a short while.
For about a year I lodged with a friend after her and her fiancé had split up and she needed somebody to help pay the mortgage once he had gone. She was very intrigued to know what the script of her house was and how, maybe, it was affecting her life while she was there. When I checked the energy of the house I found that it was strongly female and had the archetype of a ‘Spinster Schoolmistress’.
We decided to check back through the deeds and found that the house had only had two owners since the Second World War – one was a spinster who had lived there all her life with her brother until they were both pensioners, and the previous owner (who had sold the house to my friend and her fiancée) was an older lady who lived there by herself. Now that we had checked the history of occupancy we could clearly see that this house did indeed come with a strong ‘spinster script’. To me, it is no surprise that my friend had problems with her relationship there and that, eventually, her fiancée left. The script had asserted itself!
So what gives a house its particular script? I believe it is mostly down to the earth energy lines that run underneath the property. Just as with human beings, the earth is covered in a network of thousands of energy lines that carry its life-force around its body. In a human being these lines are known as meridians and if they get blocked or distorted then your health suffers and you might go to an acupuncturist who would place needles at key points in the blocked line so that it can flow properly again.
On the earth, these lines can vary in size – a bit like our road system. There are motorways, A roads and B roads and all of them have a current of life-force energy flowing through them. This energy is invisible to the eye but can be detected by dowsing though some people are sensitive enough to feel it directly in their body. When I work with a house I usually find one or maybe two of these lines running underneath. Usually they are more of the B road variety but sometimes your house can be built on an energy motorway which works for some people but not others.
I also find that each line has its own flavour or personality and this influences the people that live above it. When I am dowsing I usually see in mind pictures of people/animals/film stars/historical characters which show me the archetype of the line and therefore what sort of people will feel comfortable in that property and how people will behave while they live there. For example I might be dowsing in a house and I find a line that is very male in flavour and the picture I get is ‘John Wayne’. This tells me that this house has a strong heroic male energy and we’d probably find that there are only men living there – maybe a group of young firemen sharing it. If we were then to plot that line out on a map we would be likely to find that other houses on this line would also have very male households – probably men who are in other adventurous and heroic professions. We might even find that this line passes through something like an army barracks!
So, whether you are house-hunting or already in your long-term home, it can be very valuable to know a little about the house-script in that property and how it might be affecting your life there. Sometimes we are drawn to houses where the script can seem negative but, in fact, it’s just what we needed at that point of our life. As with my friend who bought the ‘spinster house’, it could look as though she had made a mistake by going there but, with hindsight she realised that the man she was about to marry was not the right life partner for her at all and that, as painful as it was at the time, his leaving was a good thing in the long-run. Shortly after realising this she sold the house and went to a fantastic new life in Australia.
So what script do you think you have under your floorboards? One of the best clues is the history of the property. Who lived there before you? Have any significant events happened there? Try and go back as far as possible, as remember, the script is in the land not the bricks and mortar, so events that happened on that site before your house was built there will also tell the story. One property I worked with was still being affected by a battle from the Civil War.
Also, if you can, check the history of occupancy of the neighbouring properties. In one house I lived, the whole street seemed to be filled with people who were in the writing profession in some way – journalists, editors, publishers – and I called that road ‘Writers’ Row’! Interestingly this was where I started writing my book so I guess at some level I was drawn to that house so that the writing part of my soul path could be initiated – who knows.
You might also want to look back at your life since you came to your current property and see if there are any themes or patterns that keep repeating. For example, have you been single ever since you lived there, have you developed certain skills, does a specific kind of person keep coming in to your life, has your career taken a different turn?
Finally, if you like to work this way, you could tune-in to the house and see what pictures/words/feelings you get. Before doing this imagine yourself standing inside a bubble of white light (or whatever method you currently use for energy protection) and set your intent that you only receive information that is beneficial to you. On the ground floor, sit quietly and see if any pictures come to you – try not to edit this but just note what comes first. You could also ask for a word that sums up the essence of that property. When I did this in one house I got the word ‘earthy’ and my life did take on a more earthy flavour after this as well finding that I developed my earth energy skills further.
You may also find it helpful to talk over the information that you have received with a partner or friend as this solidifies it and further insights usually ‘drop-in’ as you are talking.
Whatever you discover I hope it makes your relationship with your home richer and that you have a greater understanding of why you and that property have been attracted to each other at this point in time.

Peter Vaughan – Chef, dowser and excellent raconteur, was the speaker for the November meeting. He has spoken to the society on a couple of previous occasions, the first about his method of using dowsing to help choose ingredients, the second about honey.
The subject of this talk was about how he became intrigued by Tibet, its people and way of life, and its religious beliefs – namely Buddhism and the much older Bon religion which preceded it.
Peter first became interested in Tibet and the plight of its people when he went on a charity fund-raising trek, and has recently returned from a trip to the Mount Everest Base Camp and the Himalayan region, where many Tibetans live in exile.
The fortitude of the Tibetans made an impression on Peter, stimulating his interest in Buddhism, which he encountered firstly when he went on a retreat led by a Tibetan monk at Glastonbury a few years ago.
Peter began the talk by unveiling the collection of statues, pictures and other artefacts that he had brought along, firstly explaining the differences between Tibetan and other forms of Buddhism. Apparently there are different characteristics aligned to the Buddhas. For example, the Dalai Lama is the Living Buddha of compassion, which is why he is revered. There are also Buddhas for the present moment, and many others.
Bon, a form of Shamanism was the forerunner of Tibetan Buddhism, some of the spirits connected with this were quite unpleasant if they were not properly treated. Incense is heavily used and is believed to affect the pineal gland, the “Third Eye”, the finest incense comes from the juniper bush
Apparently we are now in the Buddhist realm of Realisation, which has a similar meaning to the Age of Aquarius so we should be open to the many positive benefits that this will bring the world.
Meditation is an important aspect of the Buddhist way of life, the Tibetans use mantras, the most well-known being Om Mani Padme Hum. This can be compared to the sounds produced from a “singing bowl”. It is believed that the 10000 nearest world systems can be accessed by meditating.
Prayer Wheels are used by most people, who usually carry them or a Rosary-type string of beads, about their person. All the printed prayers inside the wheels are made by the stamping method, not on printing presses. Giant prayer wheels are to be found in public places, often near the entrance to buildings, for any one to use.
Strings of prayer flags are frequently seen. These should be made of cotton so that they gradually break up in the strong winds, as the prayers are taking effect. This is similar to the western practise of hanging strips of rag near holy wells.
The flags are in blue, green, red, yellow and white, each colour having a different symbolism.
Tibet is a very rocky place and certain rocks have had mantras carved upon them, to appease the Nagas. Peter suggested that these particular rocks may be situated over blind springs and that this energy might have been discerned by those who carved the mantras, leading them to see the place as special or sacred.
Thanks to Peter for yet another fascinating, entertaining and inspiring talk. If you fancy a meal at Peter’s restaurant it is “The Bistro” in Devizes – well worth a visit.
The Society likes to provide equipment to speakers to make their life easier. We have available a large screen, 35mm slide projector, overhead projector and flip chart but we have been asked recently if we had a digital projector. Does anyone have one that they would be willing to loan to the Society occasionally for speakers? If they do please contact Shaun. Many thanks.
The following piece has been sent to us by Guy Holding. Guy is looking for feed back from the article so if you have any comments (in writing) please let me know and I will forward then on. The material is copyright of the Moorland Dowsers 1977 Devon. Guy has provided a list of the churches that he has dowsed. I can supply this if you need it.
There is some confusion over the names given to energy lines, so far recorded in Churches, such as water springs, blind springs, geodetic and water lines. There is now another group I have investigated and will now call Church Energy Triads. These bands are not specific to churches but are derived from an Orbital grid- system, similar to the Hartman and Currie grids, originating from the earth’s formation and also to magnetic lines (not man made but detectable by dowsing). Some churches also have energy lines laid down, as a result of repeated liturgical processions. Before proceeding further I would quote from Guy Underwood "any person who puts forward some new theory involving divining, needs courage.", but I take heart from a further quote "No manifestation can be accepted as valid, until it has been repeated many times, with identical results". This I have now accomplished. My earlier work in churches was confined to water lines, but one day being unable to enter a locked church, I walked around the church with my rods and found a strong deflection at the East end, at a point, such that, had I been inside, would have been exactly at the site of the altar. Further dowsing revealed two more bands to the North and two more to the South, all passing through the church. But this was not the end, as I found one more to the North and a final one to the South, thus making seven bands in all, passing through the church from East to West. I would emphasise the importance of not moving too swiftly when dowsing, as closely allied lines may be missed. It was then found that each of the seven bands was composed of three smaller energy lines, now to be called a Triad. So the seven bands are made up of a total of twenty one lines in all, and each triad separated, by a few paces from the others. More specific details later. The early Christian Church started as a small cell built on the early Churchyard Cross preceeded by a pagan site. Not being wide, only one band would have passed through the cell, the others remaining outside. With further wider buildings, more of these bands would have been found passing through the church. Eventually with churches having extra North and South Aisles all seven bands can now be found within the building.
If one walks along the South coastline in a North\South direction, these seven bands can be detected coming out from the sea and across the land to the West, and each group of seven bands will be separated from the next group by about 126 paces, either to the north, or to the south. On the North Devon coast these groups can be found again but this time passing out to sea and presumably being an earth grid system proceeding to the Americas. I would welcome confirmation of arrival on that continent. Being a transorbital grid system these bands must also pass through countless other buildings other than Churches, but being large structures, surrounded by open spaces, then dowsing is easier than on private properties. I have found this phenomenon at several farm houses and pubs, including my own house built on an old Abbey site.
For the sake of clarity the bands are designated by letters starting with the Northernmost as letter A., then through the others BCDE until the last one the southern band as letter G. The importance of this is because the bands A,B and F,G exhibit different actions to be described later.
Using the Mager Rosette, whereby the colours show bad or good energies I found that there are no bad energies in these seven Triads. The outer bands A and G are yellow; B and F are green, C and E are blue, whilst the central band through the Altar is white. .All these are favourable energies. These bands are not found in all churches and with a few exceptions, are always found in pre—Reformation churches, as these were the earliest churches formed from early pagan sites which were Christianised. In the Pagan era the shrines or temples were made on a group of these bands, with the strongest energy found at the altar. They were most probably found by dowsing, or by the feel-good feeling that designated the site as suitable for worship. Rather than destroy them, they were Christianised, to avoid trouble with the local inhabitants. Many people experience this feel-good feeling, even if not regular parishioners. I use the time date of pre-reformation fairly arbitrarily because most churches built after this time, were not built on previous pagan sites, in fact many were built on sites of convenience, especially when the land was donated. So all non-conformist and most Victorian ones are devoid of energy lines but do face East/West. There are indeed some churches that from the date, were pre-reformation but were again built on sites of convenience and a classic example is at Llanhydroc in Cornwall with no energy bands. There are several others I've listed later. There are a few Victorian which were re-built, after demolition, on the old site and these do have the original energy bands .
Mention must be made of the oddities or exceptions that were found.
Corfe Village. The original church was built on marshes and was later transferred to the present village site and no energy bands.
Kingston St.James, Dorset. The original church now a private house , has the seven bands, but the later church was built some distance away, to provide work for un-employed quarrymen. Large church no bands.
Bembridge, Isle of Wight. Present church Victorian, no bands but the old site, is on the beach nearby and because of coastal erosion only the tower remains, but still retains the energy bands.
Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight. Large church with very wide nave and north and south aisles. The South aisle was the original Abbey church and being very wide has all the bands, but nothing, in the later north aisle and nave.
Wareham, Dorset. There are three churches in the town (a)early Saxon, (b) church for the poor, (c)present parish church. The Saxon being the only one with energy bands.
Buckfastleigh, Devon. The bands are in the church yard , but pass over entrances to deep limestone Caves unsuitable for building, so the site moved to the North.
There are in fact many churches where the energy bands pass over very steep inclines, bad for building and listed later.
Golant, Cornwall. The early church is now the North aisle, with the Lady chapel at the east end. Being narrow, C, D, and E bands are in the old church, with A and B in the churchyard to the north, and the F and G bands are in the present nave, built on the south side of the old church.
Early church sites can be found to have seven bands of Triads present and depending on the size of the church they may pass through different parts of the church and with the smallest cells some may be outside the building. Significant Properties of the Triads.
Each Triad as mentioned has three lines of energy and starting from the North they can be labelled "a", "b" and "c" and these bands will, at about six or seven paces, give off energy swirls, so that "a" and "b" (the central one) give clockwise swirls whilst "c" rotates anti¬clockwise. There is always a marked swirl over the altar.
There is something quite remarkable about the bands "A" and "G". After swirling they cross over to the opposite sides and when reaching the line of the opposite outer band, they swirl again and then return, to their original site and direction and pass forwards again.. Bands "B" and "F" again swirl but then pass outwards a few paces and then after swirling again return to their original path. The diagrams will show this more explicitly. There is also a vertical dimension to these bands as they can be dowsed on the top of church roofs and towers and on the top pathway of a deep gorge. I have no way of proving their ultimate vertical dimension.
My work has been confined to Devon, Cornwall and Norfolk, but I am quite certain the energy bands can be found further north and eastwards into Europe which can only be confirmed by help from fellow dowsers.
In conclusion I quote Henri Deslandres, "WE must accept dowsing as a fact. It is useless to work up experiments to prove existence"
